The Thomas J. Nevin, Tasmanian Photographer weblog offers historical information, resources and the classic works of Tasmanian photographer Thomas J. Nevin (28/08/1842 - 12/03/1923).
Thomas J. Nevin produced a large number of stereographs and cartes from his commercial practice, and prisoner ID photographs on government contract, some of which are viewable on the website.
Nevin was one of the first photographers to work with the police in Australia, and his Tasmanian prisoner vignettes ("mugshots") are the earliest to survive in public collections.
The weblog contains a great deal of impressive and important historical records from Nevins life and era, with publications, images and chronologies of the time.
