Remembrance: Port Arthur Massacre 1996-2025

The anniversary of the Port Arthur massacre is on 28th April each year.

It was on Sunday 28 April 1996 ****** ****** went on a shooting rampage in and around Port Arthur.

The massacre left 35 people dead and many injured and traumatised.

Using semi-automatic weapons that he had bought without a licence, ****** had perpetrated one of the most deadly civilian mass shootings in the world to date. Australia, as a nation, was shocked to the core.

It led to stricter gun controls, notably a near ban on all fully automatic or semiautomatic firearms.

The perpetrator was sentenced to 35 life terms.

Each year a service for a small number of invited speakers, laying of wreaths, a quiet moment for reflection and will conclude with a musical tribute. Anybody wishing to attend can do so but is asked to notify the site.
